UK Athletics Admits Corporate Manslaughter in Death of Abdullah Hayayei Training Accident at Newham Leisure Centre UK Athletics has admitted corporate manslaughter over the death of Paralympian Abdullah Hayayei. The athlete died in July 2017 during a training session at Newham Leisure Centre in London. A metal throwing cage collapsed and struck him. He was 36. At first, UK Athletics denied the charge in March 2025. However, the organization changed its plea at a recent hearing at the Old Bailey. As a result, the court will now move straight to sentencing. Keith Davies, who oversaw sport at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships, also admitted a health and safety offence. Earlier, he had denied gross negligence manslaughter. Now, he remains on bail. In addition, he must cooperate with the Probation Service for a pre sentence report. Prosecutor Karen Robinson asked the judge to fix a two day sentencing hearing in early June. She also confirmed that the prosecution will not pursue a full trial. Therefore, the court will deal with all remaining matters during sentencing. A Prominent Paralympic Career At the time of the incident, Hayayei prepared for the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London. He represented the United Arab Emirates in the F34 classification. He planned to compete in shot put, discus, and javelin. Moreover, London 2017 would have marked his second appearance at a world championship. Previously, he competed at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. There, he finished sixth in javelin and seventh in shot put. Earlier still, he took part in the 2015 World Championships in Doha. He secured fifth place in discus and eighth in shot put. Beyond sport, Hayayei was a father of five. His death shocked the athletics community. For that reason, organizers held a moment of silence during the opening ceremony at London Stadium. Sentencing Stage Ahead The court will now decide the penalties for UK Athletics and Keith Davies. Meanwhile, the case has renewed debate around safety standards in elite sport. Ultimately, the sentencing hearing in June will close a legal process that has lasted several years.

FA Takes No Action Over Ratcliffe Immigration Comments The Football Association will not charge Manchester United co owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe over his recent immigration remarks. In an interview, Ratcliffe said the United Kingdom had been “colonised by immigrants.” The comment sparked criticism across the country. Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the remark. Several Manchester United supporter groups also spoke out. The The Football Association reviewed the case. It decided not to take formal action. Instead, officials reminded Ratcliffe of his responsibilities in English football. They had examined whether his words brought the game into disrepute. The case is now closed. Ratcliffe later issued a qualified apology. Manchester United released a statement as well. The club highlighted its work on equality and inclusion. Carrick Backs Club Values Interim head coach Michael Carrick addressed the issue before the next match. He said he is proud of what the club stands for. Carrick explained that Ratcliffe and the club had already spoken. He said it was not his place to add more. Instead, he focused on the team’s culture and values. He said equality, diversity and respect shape daily life at the club. He added that Manchester United carries global responsibility. Carrick has spent many years at the club. He understands its influence. A Global Squad Remains United United’s squad includes players from 16 countries. The women’s and youth teams also feature international talent. Some players come from Mali and Japan. As a player, Carrick worked under Alex Ferguson. Ferguson often praised diversity within the squad. He saw it as a strength. Carrick believes the controversy will not harm unity. The team is pushing for Champions League qualification. That target once looked unlikely this season. He described the group as strong and connected. At the press conference, Carrick wore a green Unite for Access badge. The campaign promotes equal matchday access for disabled fans. He said the club remains aware of its wider role in society.

Alex Pretti, a Minneapolis ICU nurse, remembered by family after fatal shooting involving a federal agent

Family Honors a Life Dedicated to Care and Service

Alex Pretti, the 37 year old Minneapolis man fatally shot by a federal agent, is being remembered by his family as a deeply kind and caring person who devoted his life to helping others. Pretti worked as an intensive care nurse at a Veterans Affairs medical facility, where relatives say he took great pride in caring for veterans and supporting the community he called home.

In a family statement, his parents said Alex always wanted to make a positive difference. They described him as someone who believed strongly in helping people, especially those in need. They added that it is heartbreaking he will never get to see the impact of the life he lived.

What Happened During the Confrontation

Pretti was shot shortly before 9 a.m. on Saturday during a tense encounter between federal immigration officers and protesters in Minneapolis. According to Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the situation escalated quickly as demonstrators opposed the government’s immigration enforcement actions.

The Department of Homeland Security said Border Patrol agents were conducting an operation when Pretti approached them. Federal officials claimed an agent fired in self defense after Pretti allegedly resisted efforts to disarm him. However, videos recorded from multiple angles appear to challenge parts of that account and have fueled public skepticism.

Local officials stated that Pretti was a legal gun owner with a valid permit to carry. His family confirmed he owned a handgun and held a concealed carry permit in Minnesota.

Family Rejects Federal Account

Pretti’s parents, Michael and Susan, strongly disputed the version of events provided by federal authorities. They described the statements made about their son as disturbing and dishonest.

In their account, they said Alex was not holding a weapon at the time he was shot. Instead, they said he had his phone in one hand while raising the other above his head. According to the family, Pretti was attempting to help a woman who had been pushed to the ground by officers while he himself was being pepper sprayed.

They urged the public and officials to seek the truth, emphasizing that their son was a good man who acted out of concern for others.

Videos Add to Public Questions

Footage reviewed by media outlets shows Pretti checking on a protester who had been shoved by federal officers. Moments later, a struggle broke out, and Pretti was forced to the ground and surrounded by agents.

The conflicting accounts and video evidence have intensified calls for transparency and an independent investigation. For many, the focus remains on who Alex Pretti was rather than only how he died, a nurse, a helper, and someone remembered for his compassion.
