Bafta will announce its nominations for 2026, which are likely to include actors such as Timothee Chalamet and Emma Stone. Jessie Buckley and Jacob Elordi may also be included. Bafta, the major award organization that follows the Oscars in revealing its shortlists for this season is set to announce their nominations 2026.
This year’s nominations are likely to be led by Hamnet Sinners and A Battle After Another. Due to rules on eligibility, some films will be excluded, such as the Netflix smash KPop Demon Hunters. Bafta offers more flexibility in terms of nominations than Oscars. It allows six slots instead of five for each category, while also recognizing British talent.

- Hamnet : This film, based on Maggie O’Farrell’s book, explores the possibility that a tragic family event inspired Shakespeare to pen one of his best-known plays.
- Sinners is a mix of horror, blues and vampires. It follows two twins who are trying to start a live music venue in Mississippi during the 1930s before evil forces interfere.
- Marty Supreme : The story of a table-tennis champion in New York, 1950s. He pursues his dreams while managing the financial challenges.
- Bugonia Two cousins kidnap the CEO of a pharmaceutical company to blame them for the death of a family member.
- Sentimental value Two sisters, who lost their mother, reconnect with their estranged filmmaker father.
- For Good tells the story of Elphaba & Glinda prior to the events of 1939 Wizard of Oz.
British Talent in the Spotlight
Other British contenders are Pillion a tale of two men involved in a BDSM, and H is for Hawk a movie about a grieving woman who trains a goshawk.

Surprises and Snubs
Although they have films this year, some big names such as Julia Roberts and George Clooney didn’t even make it to the Bafta shortlist. Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters is not eligible for the Bafta awards, despite being a front-runner at Oscars in both animated film and song categories.

Oscar winners are often predicted by Bafta award winners. Thirteen Bafta winners of best actor and ten best actress won Oscars in the past 15 years. Bafta awards can provide insight as to how Academy voters may decide, even if other awards are different.
