Australian shark attack near Rottnest Island leaves father of two dead Incident at Horseshoe Reef An Australian man lost his life after a shark attack while spearfishing off Western Australia. The incident took place around 10:00 local time at Horseshoe Reef, northwest of Rottnest Island near Perth. The victim, Steven Mattaboni, aged 38, was in the water with friends about 1 kilometer from shore when a large shark, estimated around 4 meters long, bit him on the lower leg. Rescue attempt by friends Friends quickly brought him back to shore after the attack. Emergency teams arrived soon after, but they were unable to save him. Police described the event as a severe and distressing attack. Officers confirmed that witnesses saw the full incident unfold. Family statement and personal tribute His wife, Shirene Mattaboni, described him as a loving father and devoted partner. She said he deeply cared for their two young daughters, including a baby aged four months and another child turning three next month. She shared that he loved the ocean and spent much of his time fishing. She described him as generous, loyal, and kind, saying the family feels deep grief after the sudden loss. Tributes from community and sport club The Kingsley Amateur Football Club in Perth paid tribute to him, remembering him as a valued member and a friend to many. The club said he was known for his warm personality and positive presence. The Australian Underwater Federation also expressed sympathy. Its president noted that spearfishing carries risks, even though safety measures are used in organized settings such as boats and shark spotting systems. He added that recreational diving can leave people more exposed because conditions are less controlled. Official police details WA Police Sergeant Michael Wear said the attack happened while Mattaboni was close to his boat, about 20 meters away at the time. Friends witnessed the incident and immediately tried to help. Authorities continue to remind the public about ocean safety risks in shark active waters.

Eagles Set for London Game in 2026 NFL Season as League Expands Globally Philadelphia Eagles Head to London The Philadelphia Eagles will return to London in the 2026 NFL season. They will be part of a major international schedule that includes a record number of games outside the United States. The Eagles last played in London in 2018. The game in London will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It adds to the league plan of growing American football across global markets. NFL Expands to Nine International Games The NFL will stage nine regular season games across four continents in 2026. These matches will be played in seven different countries. The United Kingdom will host three games again. The league is also expanding into new regions. Australia and France will host NFL games for the first time. This marks a major step in the sport’s international growth. Jaguars and 49ers Lead Overseas Schedule The Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers will each play two games outside the United States. The Jaguars will also host games in London across two consecutive weeks. The 49ers will take part in international fixtures that include matches in Mexico. The Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys will also play in Brazil in the league’s first game in Rio de Janeiro. London Games Schedule London will open its NFL run on 4 October. The Washington Commanders will face the Indianapolis Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Jaguars will then host the Eagles the following week at the same venue. After that, they will meet the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium. This will be a divisional game, which is rare outside the United States. Games Across Europe and Australia The NFL will also stage games in other major cities. Paris will host its first NFL game at Stade de France, where the New Orleans Saints will meet the Pittsburgh Steelers. Real Madrid’s stadium will host a game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. Munich will see the New England Patriots face the Detroit Lions. The opening international game of the season will be played in Australia. The Los Angeles Rams will face the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. League Reaction and Expansion Goals NFL UK and Ireland leadership said the 2026 schedule features major stadiums and strong matchups. They highlighted the Eagles as a strong and competitive team returning to London. They also noted that divisional games played outside the United States are still uncommon. The Jaguars hosting the Texans in London was described as a key moment for international growth.

Middlesbrough React After Playoff Exit Amid Spygate Claims Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg has spoken out after his side were knocked out of the Championship playoffs by Southampton in a tense extra time defeat at St Mary’s Stadium. Southampton won the match 2 1 after extra time, but the result has been overshadowed by serious off pitch allegations linked to a Spygate investigation. Spygate Allegations Dominate Post Match Debate The English Football League has charged Southampton over claims that someone associated with the club observed a Middlesbrough training session before the first leg. Hellberg said the issue changed how he feels about the tie. He believes the match should be decided by tactics alone, not by any unfair advantage gained outside the pitch. He also said it feels painful because it affects the fairness he expects in football. Southampton Under Investigation Southampton have requested more time to carry out an internal review of the situation. This could delay the final outcome of the investigation. However, the EFL is under pressure to make a quick decision because the playoff schedule is already tight. The uncertainty has created tension around whether the upcoming final at Wembley will go ahead as planned. Middlesbrough Want Clear Outcome Middlesbrough want clarity so the competition can move forward without confusion. They believe the situation must be resolved quickly so focus can return to football rather than off field issues. The result of the investigation could have a major impact on both clubs and the final stage of the season.

Eddie Jones Suspended as Japan Head Coach After Match Official Abuse Disciplinary Action Taken by JRFU Former England rugby head coach Eddie Jones has been fined and suspended from his role as Japan head coach after admitting to inappropriate comments directed at match officials during an under 23 tour in Australia last month. The Japanese Rugby Football Union confirmed the decision, saying the behaviour was serious enough to require strong disciplinary action under his contract. Jones has been removed from duty for six weeks and will miss Japan’s next four matches, including the opening Nations Championship fixture against Italy on 4 July. He will also be absent for two matches against a Hong Kong China Select team and a warm up game against the Maori All Blacks. The union has also reduced his salary as part of the punishment. Jones Issues Apology Jones accepted the sanction and expressed regret over his conduct. He said his remarks caused discomfort to local officials and others involved, and he apologised for the incident. The 66 year old acknowledged responsibility and said he understood the impact of his behaviour. Background and Recent Incidents Japan’s under 23 squad completed the tour with three wins from four matches, including a strong 38 to 21 victory over Randwick, a club closely linked to Jones’ coaching history. This is not the first time Jones has faced controversy since returning to Australia. After England’s series win over Australia in 2022, he was involved in tense exchanges with fans who accused him of disloyalty following his switch in coaching roles.

John Travolta’s Cannes Directorial Debut Divides Critics After Mixed Reception Cannes Premiere Draws Mixed Reactions John Travolta has made his first step behind the camera with Propeller One Way Night Coach, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The screening was introduced by festival director Thierry Frémaux, who noted that films made by actors often feel personal, inventive, and closely tied to cinema itself. Despite that framing, early reactions to the film have been far from positive. One critic described it bluntly as a “disaster”, setting the tone for a divided critical response. A Short, Personal Story Told Through Memory The film is a deeply personal project for Travolta. It follows a young boy traveling with his mother on a domestic flight across the United States in the 1960s. The journey includes brief stops in different cities, but the narrative stays minimal and reflective rather than plot driven. Travolta first wrote the story as a children’s book in 1997. The film version keeps that same simplicity, running for just over an hour and relying heavily on voiceover narration instead of traditional dramatic scenes. Actor to Director Shift Raises Familiar Questions Travolta joins a long list of actors who later stepped into directing. Some have succeeded, while others have struggled to replicate their on screen impact behind the camera. History shows mixed results. Films by established actors often appear at major festivals like Cannes or Toronto, then fade quickly from public attention. Recent examples include Ryan Gosling’s Lost River and Chris Pine’s Poolman, both of which received weak critical responses and limited follow up projects. At the same time, there are clear success stories. Figures such as Charlie Chaplin, Clint Eastwood, Greta Gerwig, and Jordan Peele have built strong directing careers. This contrast highlights how difficult the transition can be, even for major stars. Festival Spotlight but Uncertain Future Some industry observers question whether festival selection always reflects quality or simply the appeal of celebrity names. Travolta’s film, with its autobiographical tone and experimental structure, fits into a pattern of passion projects that gain festival attention but struggle to find wider audiences. At just 61 minutes, the film feels more like a personal memory piece than a mainstream release. Its heavy use of narration and limited dramatic structure further sets it apart from conventional storytelling.

Why Star Wars Is Losing Its Spark: A Franchise in Decline A galaxy that stopped growing The Star Wars franchise has not released a new film in theaters for seven years. The last entry, The Rise of Skywalker (2019), earned about 1.077 billion dollars worldwide. That sounds strong, but it was far below The Force Awakens (2015), which made roughly double that amount. The drop showed that audience excitement was fading across the sequel trilogy. The decline did not start there. Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) performed poorly at the box office, reaching only around 393 million dollars globally. This result pushed the studio to rethink its approach to standalone films. Disney’s expansion and the streaming shift After Disney bought Lucasfilm for 4.05 billion dollars in 2012, the company expanded Star Wars beyond cinema into streaming. The plan focused heavily on TV series, starting with The Mandalorian, which initially attracted strong attention. Over time, the volume of shows increased. Instead of strengthening the brand, this expansion made the universe feel crowded. Recent releases show weaker engagement. The 2025 series Skeleton Crew opened with the lowest viewership for a Star Wars show. The 2024 series The Acolyte was cancelled after one season due to poor performance. Audience fatigue and declining interest As more shows arrived, interest began to weaken. Many viewers felt overwhelmed by constant releases and overlapping storylines. What once felt like an event started to feel routine. Critics and audiences also gave mixed reactions to newer content. This combination of oversupply and inconsistent storytelling reduced long term excitement for the franchise. The next film faces pressure A new chapter is now beginning with The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau. It continues the story of Din Djarin and Grogu, a fan favourite character from The Mandalorian series. However, early tracking suggests a soft opening weekend in the United States, estimated at around 80 million dollars. If accurate, it would mark the lowest debut for any Star Wars film so far. This puts pressure on the franchise at a time when it is already struggling to rebuild its theatrical audience. What went wrong with Star Wars The core issue appears to be audience fatigue. Rapid expansion into both films and streaming series diluted the impact of each release. Instead of building anticipation, the franchise delivered frequent content that felt less special over time. At the same time, uneven storytelling and mixed critical reception reduced trust among viewers. Together, these factors contributed to declining interest in new Star Wars projects. Why Star Wars Is Losing Its Spark: A Franchise in Decline A galaxy that stopped growing The Star Wars franchise has not released a new film in theaters for seven years. Drake Targets Kendrick Lamar and Others in Surprise Triple Album Release Drake revisits Kendrick Lamar feud in new music Drake has sparked fresh attention after using his new triple album drop to touch on his long running conflict with Kendrick Lamar. Listeners quickly pointed out lyrics that appear to reference the rivalry that escalated in 2024. In one track, Drake questions public charity moments in Compton, Los Angeles, suggesting that some artists use their hometown image for publicity before returning to a more private celebrity lifestyle. The line being discussed is: “Handin’ out turkeys on camera inside of your hood, then you go back to the hills.” Personal reflections in “Make Them Cry” On the opening track of Iceman, titled Make Them Cry, Drake appears more emotional and reflective. He references the pressure around the feud and his own mental state. He raps, “Tell us how it felt to meet the grim reaper. This album better have some big features. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m all alone for my mental health.” The track also includes a personal revelation, where he mentions that his father has been diagnosed with cancer, adding a more vulnerable tone to the project. Calls out other celebrities and athletes Beyond Kendrick Lamar, Drake also appears to address other public figures who were seen as supporting his rival during the beef. One line is widely interpreted as a reference to NBA star LeBron James, who attended a Kendrick concert during the height of the tension. He also seems to mention DJ Khaled, following criticism in public discourse about his silence on global issues, including the war in Gaza. Mixed reaction and streaming impact Critics have not fully reviewed the albums yet, but early audience response has been strong. Streaming platforms reportedly faced slowdowns and temporary crashes as fans rushed to play the 43 track release across Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour. Album style breakdown The three projects each explore different sounds. Iceman focuses on rap and hip hop. Habibti leans into R&B influences. Maid of Honour brings a more dance inspired direction.

Authorities in Arizona are investigating alleged ransom notes linked to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of television presenter Savannah Guthrie. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that the FBI reviewed the note and shared it with Savannah Guthrie. Investigators are treating it as a potential lead. “If someone brings us information, we examine every part of it,” Nanos said during a briefing. Search Continues as Health Concerns Grow Nancy Guthrie has been missing for several days and requires regular medication. When asked if investigators believe she could still be alive, Sheriff Nanos said hope remains. “We hope she is,” he told reporters. Investigators have not identified a motive. They also have not confirmed whether her public profile played a role. However, Nanos said they cannot dismiss that possibility. Surveillance Footage Still Unavailable Investigators have not accessed footage from the home’s security cameras. According to the sheriff, the department is working with technology companies to recover video from Saturday night. Family members last saw Nancy Guthrie around 9:30 pm local time after dropping her off at home. Concern grew the following morning when members of her church noticed she did not attend Sunday services. They contacted her family around 11:00 am. When deputies arrived at the property, the scene caused what Nanos described as “grave concern.” Evidence Under Review Police located blood at the home and submitted samples for testing, according to media reports. Sheriff Nanos did not confirm the location of the blood. Investigators also collected fingerprints and DNA samples. So far, results have not identified a suspect. Customs and Border Protection has provided tracking dogs to assist in the search. Belief That She Was Taken Against Her Will Sheriff Nanos said investigators believe someone took Nancy Guthrie from her home against her will. “That is where the evidence leads us right now,” he said. He urged the public to share tips and said authorities would follow every lead. Nancy Guthrie reportedly has physical health issues but no cognitive impairment. Homicide detectives responded early in the case. Nanos noted this step is not typical in missing person investigations. Family Response and National Attention Savannah Guthrie has stepped away from her on air duties to remain with her family during the search. In a social media message, she thanked supporters for their prayers and expressed faith and hope for her mother’s safe return. A network spokesperson said Guthrie would not take part in upcoming coverage so she could focus on her family. President Donald Trump also commented on the case Tuesday. He said he plans to call Savannah Guthrie and would consider assigning more federal agents. “It’s a terrible situation,” he said at a White House event.

Standing on a global stage and holding a Grammy is a dream many artists chase. For FKA Twigs, that moment came after years of steady work, patience, and belief in her craft. At the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, the singer won Best Dance or Electronic Album for Eusexua. While fans saw a breakthrough, Twigs made it clear that her journey began long ago. Early talent in Cheltenham Born Tahliah Barnett, FKA Twigs grew up in Cheltenham. Dance teacher Corraine Collins first met her when she was just six years old. Collins remembers her as an energetic and expressive child who stood out from the start. She trained in ballet, modern dance, and tap at Collins’ studio. According to her teacher, Twigs showed natural stage presence early on. She brought emotion and drama into every performance, even as a child. Collins said she knew Twigs had something special. She did not follow rules or fit into set patterns. Instead, she created her own style. A move that shaped her future At 17, Twigs moved to London to study at the BRIT School. Dance remained important, but her focus slowly shifted toward music. That change would shape her career. Years later, she returned to Cheltenham with big news. At 22, she visited Collins to share that she had signed her first record deal. The moment meant a lot to both student and teacher. Collins described the visit as emotional. She said the studio felt proud, as Twigs became their first student to rise as a pop star. Recognition after years of work On stage at the Grammys, Twigs spoke honestly about her path. She said many people see her as new, but she has worked for a long time to reach this point. She shared a message for other artists. She urged them not to quit and to trust their vision. She said staying true to one’s art is what connects with people. Her words struck a chord with Collins. She said success today often feels rushed, but real growth takes time. Twigs’ journey proves that steady effort still matters. A message that resonates FKA Twigs’ Grammy win reflects more than talent. It shows dedication, resilience, and patience. Her story reminds young artists that success does not happen overnight. From a dance studio in Cheltenham to music’s biggest stage, Twigs stayed committed to her path. That commitment finally earned global recognition.

Acclaimed screenwriter Jack Thorne is set to present a profound new interpretation of William Golding’s seminal novel, Lord of the Flies, in an upcoming BBC series. Thorne, who first encountered the story through a borrowed—and somewhat illicit—copy from his mother, describes the book as leaving a “profound scar.” His adaptation aims to move beyond the common perception of the story as a simple tale of inherent malevolence. Beyond "The Evilness of Boys" Thorne challenges the idea that Lord of the Flies is merely shorthand for the “evilness of boys.” He sees deeper complexity within Golding’s work. For Thorne, the novel presents a “remarkably tender portrait” of young boys lost in an uncontrollable situation. This perspective aligns with his celebrated work on masculinity and violence, exemplified by his award-winning series Adolescence. Understanding the "Epitome of Evil" Thorne’s understanding of the characters evolved dramatically from childhood to adulthood. He initially saw the character Jack, the instigator of the island’s hunts, as the pure “epitome of evil.” Now, Thorne views Jack as a deeply complicated figure—a boy who is “as loving as he is hateful.” This nuanced understanding forms the heart of the new adaptation. A Structural "Relay Race" of Perspectives The four-part series uses a unique narrative structure to explore this complexity. Each episode bears the name of a key character, offering a deep dive into their individual perspective as the island descends into chaos. Thorne describes this approach as a “relay race,” moving from the rational Piggy, to the conflicted Jack, to the sensitive Simon, and finally to the elected leader Ralph. This structure allows viewers to literally “look into the eyes of someone that is fighting themselves.” Fostering Empathy and Conversation Director Marc Munden emphasizes that while the series does not excuse the characters' bad behaviour, it seeks to explain it. The team hopes to show how things can “go badly wrong,” reflecting a world where “confused little boys,” now in the guise of men, still create chaos. Thorne further envisions the series as an “empathy box,” sparking conversations between young viewers and their parents about navigating the difficulties of adolescence, much like his own childhood talks about TV dramas. A Challenging and Serious Production Filmed on location in Malaysia with a large cast of children, Munden admits the shoot was “chaos.” However, he praises the young actors, particularly the four leads, for taking their roles “very seriously.” The result aims to transform a story often seen as brutal and pessimistic into one that reveals, as Munden notes, a “lot of love” in its character portrayals.
