Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has opened up about his partner Shivon Zilis’ Indian heritage, revealing that she is half-Indian. Musk shared that one of their sons carries the middle name “Sekhar” in honor of Indian-American Nobel laureate physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
Speaking on Nikhil Kamath’s “WTF is?” podcast, Musk mentioned that Zilis was adopted as a baby and raised in Canada. He added, “She grew up in Canada. She was given up for adoption when she was a baby. I think her father was an exchange student at a university… I’m not sure of the exact details.”
special projects.Zilis, a Yale graduate in Economics and Philosophy, joined Musk’s AI venture Neuralink in 2017 and now serves as Director of operations and Special Projects. Together, Musk and Zilis have four children: twins Strider and Azure, daughter Arcadia, and son Seldon Lycurgus. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Musk had welcomed his 14th child with Zilis.
Musk also praised the contributions of Indian talent in America, noting the country has “been an immense beneficiary of talent from India,” though he warned that the landscape seems to be changing due to US visa restrictions and policy shifts.
