Cricket legend Geoffrey Boycott has urged England to adopt a smarter, more strategic approach as they prepare for the second Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane.
Following a crushing eight-wicket defeat in the series opener at Perth, which ended in less than two days, Boycott believes the Three Lions need to carefully assess situations on the field and decide when to attack and when to defend.
England struggled in the first Test, being bowled out for 172 in their first innings, leaving Australia in control. With the upcoming pink-ball Test in Brisbane, where Australia has won 13 of their last 14 matches, Boycott insists that England can turn the tide if players “use their brains” and play with calculated aggression rather than reckless intent.
Boycott also commented on Ben Stokes’ recent remarks calling former players “has-beens.” While critical of the comments, he welcomed Stokes’ partial apology. Boycott emphasized that the current team must focus on winning Ashes in Australia first, proving themselves on the field before making any statements.
“England has shown moments of thrilling cricket, but knowing when to hold back and assess the situation is key,” Boycott wrote in his Daily Telegraph column.
