In the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, police have used tear gas shells against demonstrators calling for changes to the recruiting process.
Thousands of volunteers, job seekers, and students have been attempting to register their protest at the state legislature in Ranchi, the state capital.
Although the precise number of casualties is unknown, several persons have been reported to have been hurt.
Police Use Tear Gas as Jharkhand Exam Protests Continue
The demonstrators have been calling for changes to Jharkhand’s government exam system for more than two weeks.
Police used water cannons, batons, and tear gas to try to disperse crowds after several people tried to get past police barricades on Monday, according to authorities.
The majority of demonstrators were peaceful, according to Ranchi City Superintendent of Police Paras Rana, who told ANI news agency that a tiny number had broken thru barriers and thrown stones at police. According to him, three police officers were hurt.
Because the demonstrators were students, Rana claimed that the police had exercised caution and used “minimal force for a very short time”.
In the midst of the widespread “cockroach” demonstrations over exam paper leaks, thousands of young Indians tried to march to the national parliament in Delhi a few weeks prior.

In Jharkhand state, students and prospective employes have been demonstrating to call for action against purported exam irregularities.
Following the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, India’s non-political Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called off its five-week protest on July 25.
Students from several states around the nation had shown support for the CJP.

Government Agrees to Cancel Exams
There are still sizable groups at the location despite police efforts to disperse them.
Since July 25, protesters in Jharkhand have assembled in a stadium in Ranchi; some have gone on hunger strike, while others have been sleeping outside.
Protesters claim that the agitation will carry on until all of their requests are fulfilled, despite several rounds of negotiations and the government’s acceptance of a number of demands.
The Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s (JPSC) April preliminary civil service test is the direct source of the ire.
Candidates said that once the results were revealed in July, some successful applicants had answered much fewer questions than anticipated, according to leaked answer sheets that were circulated on social media.
Suspicion that the findings had been tampered with was heightened by this.
What Are the Protesters Demanding?
Students have received assurances from the state administration that they would receive justice. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand is looking into the claims related to the test. Over a dozen individuals have been taken into custody.
Additionally, after candidates questioned the selection process, investigators are looking into the involvement of a private organization that administered portions of the exam.
The administration decided to cancel the exam in question and two others after negotiating with demonstrators on Sunday. According to reports, three JPSC members also quit.
This followed the resignation of JPSC chairman L Khiangte on July 22. On Monday, he was taken into custody after being questioned during the inquiry.
However, demonstrators claim that a number of requests are yet unfulfilled, the most important of which is a probe into the irregularities.
