Pima County, Arizona – Authorities have cleared the family of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie as possible suspects. Police emphasized that the family has cooperated fully and are victims in this case.
“Suggesting otherwise is wrong and cruel,” said the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Chris Nanos added that law enforcement must protect victims and speak out against online attacks targeting innocent people.
Last Known Whereabouts
Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31. A family member dropped her off at her home after a gathering at her daughter’s house. Police reported that she went missing in the early hours of February 1. Blood found on her porch suggests she may have been taken from her residence.
Investigation Details
Video from a doorbell camera shows a masked man wearing gloves and carrying a backpack. The FBI analyzed the footage and estimates the suspect is 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build. Investigators believe he purchased the mask and backpack at a Walmart. They are reviewing store footage to track potential buyers.
Additionally, authorities are testing a glove found at the scene, which may match the suspect’s. They have also created a DNA profile of an unknown male and added it to the FBI database to check for past arrests.
Ongoing Search Efforts
The search has entered its third week. Authorities have deployed hundreds of officers, helicopters, and sniffer dogs. They have received thousands of tips from the public. On Friday, investigators executed a search warrant at a home two miles from Guthrie’s residence, but no arrests occurred.
Officials now use advanced technology to help locate her. A “signal sniffer” device detects signals from her pacemaker. Mounted on a helicopter, it scans areas where she may be hiding.
Family Appeals for Information
Guthrie’s loved ones remain hopeful for her safe return. Her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, posted a video asking anyone with information to come forward. Authorities continue to urge the public to report tips that could help locate Nancy Guthrie.
