Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

Every Easter, Norway experiences something unusual. Instead of busy streets and crowded attractions, many places fall quiet. The reason is simple. People leave cities and head to remote cabins. There, they relax and dive into crime stories. This tradition is known as påskekrim, which means Easter crime.

How the Easter Crime Trend Began

This tradition started in the early 1900s with a clever idea. A crime novel titled Bergenstoget plyndret i natt was promoted as if it were real news. The headline appeared on the front page of Aftenposten.

Readers believed a train robbery had actually happened. The confusion created excitement across the country. As a result, the book became a bestseller. Over time, this moment shaped a new Easter habit. Crime fiction became linked with the holiday.

A Nationwide Love for Mystery

Today, crime stories dominate Norway during Easter. Bookstores place thrillers at the front. Libraries also join the trend. The Deichman Library in Oslo decorates its space with crime themes. You might even see chalk outlines or playful “crime scene” displays.

This seasonal focus keeps readers engaged. It also boosts interest in both local and global crime fiction.

Cabin Life and Crime Stories

The heart of this tradition lies in cabin trips. Families travel to mountain cabins and stay there for several days. The quiet surroundings create the perfect mood for suspenseful stories.

People spend their time reading books, solving fictional mysteries, or watching crime shows. Classic characters like Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple remain popular choices.

At the same time, modern Nordic noir continues to grow. This genre offers darker and more realistic storytelling.

Modern Crime Shows Join the Tradition

Streaming platforms now play a big role in påskekrim. New releases often arrive just before Easter. One recent example is Detective Hole, based on the work of Jo Nesbø. The series launched on Netflix to match the holiday mood.

These shows attract large audiences. Many viewers now combine reading with binge-watching.

More Than Just a Holiday Habit

Norway’s Easter looks very different from other countries. While many places focus on eggs and celebrations, Norwegians enjoy mystery and suspense. The tradition blends relaxation with storytelling.

It is not about real crime. Instead, it offers a cozy and engaging escape. That is what makes påskekrim so special.

Previous Article Dark Origins Behind Today’s Fairy Romance Trend Dangerous Fairies Inspire Modern Fantasy Boom Modern fairy fiction is no longer about gentle, glowing creatures. Today’s stories present fairies as powerful, risky, and emotionally intense beings. This darker image actually comes from old folklore, not modern imagination. A surge in “fae romance” or romantasy has pushed this trend into the spotlight. Popular book series like A Court of Thorns and Roses have driven massive sales and global attention. The genre blends fantasy, romance, and sometimes bold emotional themes, attracting a wide audience. From Folklore to Modern Storytelling The idea of fairies as seductive and unpredictable is centuries old. In early European folklore, fairies were not harmless. They often tricked humans, changed shapes, and formed dangerous relationships with them. Stories from Nordic regions describe forest spirits like the skogsrå. She appears as a beautiful woman but hides animal features. Legends warn that relationships with such beings could lead to death. Similar myths appear across cultures. These tales often show supernatural beings forming close, sometimes risky bonds with humans. The Story of Tam Lin and Role Reversal One famous Scottish ballad from the 1500s tells the story of Tam Lin and a woman named Janet. She meets him in a forest, and their relationship leads to unexpected consequences. In the story, Janet becomes pregnant and later discovers Tam Lin is trapped by the Fairy Queen. Instead of being rescued, Janet takes action herself. She faces magical challenges to save him. This tale flips the usual “hero saves the woman” idea. It also shows strong emotional and symbolic elements, including transformation and loyalty. The Mélusine Legend and Otherworldly Love Another well-known tradition is the Mélusine legend. It tells of a mysterious water spirit who forms a relationship with a human man. Variations of this story appear across Europe, especially in Ireland. These stories highlight a common theme. Humans and supernatural beings form deep but complicated connections. Trust, secrecy, and transformation often shape these relationships. Shakespeare’s Influence on Fairy Myth Fairy folklore also influenced classic literature. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare presents fairies as playful but unpredictable. The fairy queen Titania falls in love with a man magically altered to look like a donkey. This mix of humor, magic, and strange attraction reflects older beliefs about fairies. They were never fully kind or safe. Why This Trend Still Works Today Modern readers connect with these stories because they offer more than simple fantasy. They explore power, emotion, and complex relationships. Today’s fairy fiction keeps the original folklore alive but adapts it for a new audience. The result is a genre that feels both ancient and fresh. Dark Origins Behind Today’s Fairy Romance Trend
