UK Athletics Admits Corporate Manslaughter in Death of Abdullah Hayayei Training Accident at Newham Leisure Centre UK Athletics has admitted corporate manslaughter over the death of Paralympian Abdullah Hayayei. The athlete died in July 2017 during a training session at Newham Leisure Centre in London. A metal throwing cage collapsed and struck him. He was 36. At first, UK Athletics denied the charge in March 2025. However, the organization changed its plea at a recent hearing at the Old Bailey. As a result, the court will now move straight to sentencing. Keith Davies, who oversaw sport at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships, also admitted a health and safety offence. Earlier, he had denied gross negligence manslaughter. Now, he remains on bail. In addition, he must cooperate with the Probation Service for a pre sentence report. Prosecutor Karen Robinson asked the judge to fix a two day sentencing hearing in early June. She also confirmed that the prosecution will not pursue a full trial. Therefore, the court will deal with all remaining matters during sentencing. A Prominent Paralympic Career At the time of the incident, Hayayei prepared for the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London. He represented the United Arab Emirates in the F34 classification. He planned to compete in shot put, discus, and javelin. Moreover, London 2017 would have marked his second appearance at a world championship. Previously, he competed at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. There, he finished sixth in javelin and seventh in shot put. Earlier still, he took part in the 2015 World Championships in Doha. He secured fifth place in discus and eighth in shot put. Beyond sport, Hayayei was a father of five. His death shocked the athletics community. For that reason, organizers held a moment of silence during the opening ceremony at London Stadium. Sentencing Stage Ahead The court will now decide the penalties for UK Athletics and Keith Davies. Meanwhile, the case has renewed debate around safety standards in elite sport. Ultimately, the sentencing hearing in June will close a legal process that has lasted several years.

FA Takes No Action Over Ratcliffe Immigration Comments The Football Association will not charge Manchester United co owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe over his recent immigration remarks. In an interview, Ratcliffe said the United Kingdom had been “colonised by immigrants.” The comment sparked criticism across the country. Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the remark. Several Manchester United supporter groups also spoke out. The The Football Association reviewed the case. It decided not to take formal action. Instead, officials reminded Ratcliffe of his responsibilities in English football. They had examined whether his words brought the game into disrepute. The case is now closed. Ratcliffe later issued a qualified apology. Manchester United released a statement as well. The club highlighted its work on equality and inclusion. Carrick Backs Club Values Interim head coach Michael Carrick addressed the issue before the next match. He said he is proud of what the club stands for. Carrick explained that Ratcliffe and the club had already spoken. He said it was not his place to add more. Instead, he focused on the team’s culture and values. He said equality, diversity and respect shape daily life at the club. He added that Manchester United carries global responsibility. Carrick has spent many years at the club. He understands its influence. A Global Squad Remains United United’s squad includes players from 16 countries. The women’s and youth teams also feature international talent. Some players come from Mali and Japan. As a player, Carrick worked under Alex Ferguson. Ferguson often praised diversity within the squad. He saw it as a strength. Carrick believes the controversy will not harm unity. The team is pushing for Champions League qualification. That target once looked unlikely this season. He described the group as strong and connected. At the press conference, Carrick wore a green Unite for Access badge. The campaign promotes equal matchday access for disabled fans. He said the club remains aware of its wider role in society.

Nvidia has bought $5 billion in Intel shares, providing Intel a financial boost while securing Nvidia a major stake. Here’s the full story and impact.

NVIDIA has completed its purchase of $5 billion in Intel shares, fulfilling a deal first announced in September. The transaction marks a significant development in the semiconductor industry, as it strengthens Intel’s finances while giving Nvidia a substantial stake in its longtime rival.

The deal involves Nvidia paying $23.28 per share for Intel stock. For Intel, the investment offers a much-needed financial lifeline. The company has faced years of costly missteps, including capital-intensive production expansions that drained its cash reserves and limited flexibility for new projects. The injection of funds from Nvidia will help Intel stabilize its operations and invest in future technology.

How the Transaction Works

NVIDIA acquired over 214.7 million shares of Intel through a private placement at the price agreed upon in September. Private placements allow companies to raise funds directly from investors without going through the public market. For Nvidia, this investment secures a meaningful stake in Intel, giving the company both financial exposure and potential influence over Intel’s strategic direction.

The purchase is not just a financial transaction. Analysts see it as a signal of cooperation and alignment between two of the largest players in the semiconductor and AI chip markets. NVIDIA, as the world’s most valuable chipmaker, gains the chance to deepen collaboration with Intel in areas such as AI, data centers, and high-performance computing.

Regulatory Approval

Before the transaction could proceed, U.S. antitrust authorities needed to clear it. The Federal Trade Commission reviewed the deal and confirmed that it raised no competitive concerns. The FTC notice, posted in December, officially allowed Nvidia to move forward with the investment. Regulatory approval was essential to avoid any legal or compliance hurdles, particularly given the size of the transaction and the significance of both companies in the chip industry.

Market Response

Following the announcement, Nvidia’s shares dropped 1.3% in premarket trading. Investors appeared cautious despite the long-term strategic value of the stake. Intel’s stock, on the other hand, remained largely unchanged, reflecting mixed sentiment about how the capital infusion will impact the company’s performance and competitive position.

Strategic Implications

Industry observers view Nvidia’s investment as a major milestone. Intel gains much-needed liquidity to support its manufacturing plans, research and development, and expansion into emerging markets. Meanwhile, Nvidia secures a foothold in a competitor that remains central to global chip production.

This move could also encourage further collaboration between chipmakers. The semiconductor industry faces rising demand for AI processors, advanced computing, and data center hardware. Partnerships and strategic investments like this one can help companies share risk, accelerate innovation, and strengthen their positions in a highly competitive market.

Looking Ahead

The deal highlights the increasingly interconnected nature of the semiconductor ecosystem. NVIDIA and Intel are both navigating rapid technological change, rising competition, and market volatility. By forging this financial connection, the two companies may be able to align on future innovations while maintaining their individual strategic goals.

Investors and industry watchers will be paying close attention to how this stake influences Intel’s projects and Nvidia’s broader strategy. As AI and high-performance computing continue to expand, relationships between leading chipmakers are likely to shape the industry for years to come.
